Before the test:
- Be prepared! Come to school ready to do your personal best. Don’t forget the #2 pencils!
- Envision your success—You WILL do well!
- Get a good night's sleep before each morning of testing!
- Approach the NJ ASK with confidence: View the exam as an opportunity to show how much you've learned.
- Don't go to the NJ ASK with an empty stomach—Eat breakfast! Remember, breakfast is offered here every morning!!
- Allow yourself plenty of time and don’t be late or absent.
- Relax just before the NJ ASK...try deep breathing.
- Don't try to do a last minute review—YOU KNOW THIS STUFF!

During the test:
- Read the directions carefully and listen to the teachers.
- Budget your test taking time .
- Change positions to help you relax, take deep breaths before beginning each section of the test
- If you go blank, skip the question and go on to the next
- When taking the writing or open-ended parts of the NJ ASK and you go blank, just start writing things down. It may trigger the answer in your mind. Use techniques from Language Arts class.
- Don't panic - when students look like they are finished before you. There's no reward for being the first done. Use every minute wisely!

THE EHCCS SCHOOL GARDEN
Students have begun planting for our Spring/Summer crop in the EHCCS Classroom Garden. The garden allows the students to learn about nutrition by growing, harvesting and tasting the vegetables and spices they plant. It’s also a powerful way to help students learn about the problem of childhood obesity.

The newest edition to our “edible classroom” garden is our water harvesting project. Two Water Hogs – 25 gallon water containers, were installed this spring to capture rain water to use in the garden. These incredible environmental products will teach the students of Egg Harbor City Community School the concept of making EHC more sustainable.

Atlantic County Guidance Counselor of the Year
Congratulations to Mrs. Gretchen Halfpenny, EHCCS Guidance Counselor, who has been named 2013 Guidance Counselor of the Year. Mrs. Halfpenny will be formally recognized at a luncheon this May hosted by the New Jersey School Counselor Association.
